Medical marijuana will probably be legal in Florida. But, the extent of medical marijuana legalization remains to be seen. On the ballot in November is Amendment 2 that would allow medical marijuana for the treatment of listed medical conditions. The amendment asks voters to allow medical marijuana “for individuals with debilitating diseases as determined by a licensed Florida physician.” 60% of voters must approve the measure for it to pass. The Florida republicans are arguing that the AMendment is too broad.
Although 21 states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana, the Southern states have resisted this movement. Florida is poised to become the first to legalize marijuana.
